1. I'm sure I've told you, but in case not-- when I was in seminary as well as doing my formal work, I was running hard to catch up on a lot of religious cultural stuff I'd never encountered. Popular stuff that was firmly identified as Christian in the more conservative circles I never knew, and non-conservative spiritual whoo-whoo stuff, and Christian classics. I did a lot on audio. And one day I put an audio book in the car player and began to hear about who shouldn't read the book, and the ill omens that went with distributing it to the vast mass of the Unready, and vaguely thought it was one of the popular spirituality things. It was of course The Cloud of Unknowing.
