I've always considered Perco's line about love songs as deliberate on the writer's part ... though of what I'm not sure. The lyrics do speak of the comforts of home for people far from it, though, so perhaps there's something there. It's a song of longing despite the jaunty tune. (As I've gotten more familiar with folk songs that have become common children's songs, I've realized a lot of them have very sad or melancholy lyrics.)

Nice catch about Tab.

Anyone else think Winters has been feeling useless since he got promoted?

Well, Winters was twitchy and fed-up ever since he got promoted out of a combat position. His style of leadership isn't suited to the kind you do sat behind a desk - I suppose that's a fair explanation for his wanting to go to Japan, if it meant he could lead from the front again. Certainly I can imagine sitting around in Austria would make him restless; he immediately insists on training up the men and keeping everything in order, after all.

God, those five weeks just flew by.

Glad you've enjoyed my remarks on it all!

And yeah, I just adore the real Shifty. And seeing Bill at the end almost makes me grin because he's just so, well, Bill-ish. Pity they don't identify everyone, though, there's a lot of guys who turned up in earlier episodes as talking heads who don't get a final word. I must get around to watching the documentary at some point. Even if just to know who that guy with the goatee was.

Which one? Hashey? White hair, white goatee?

Yeah, he's the one I was thinking of. So that's Hashey, huh? That makes sense. I'd figured he was a replacement, as he mentions the difficulties of being a new guy at the start of the episode of that name. Also explains why he looks fairly young compared to some of 'em - Hashey was what, 19, when he joined Easy?
Glad that's laid to rest.

- I bought a pair of aviator shades only because Nix looks so damn cool in his. (I don't look nearly as cool in mine.)

I totally know how you feel. I watched Points for the first time on the last night in my dormitory, and wearing my sunglasses out on moving day made me really disappointed with how inferior in coolness I was.
