It's about 6 miles. I would like to get a place thinking that I could make a self-sustaining life there, but I still plan to keep working at the lab for a while. I'll at least stay here until I get my Master's (2 more years) and then if I don't get a good raise I'll leave... hah. There's a lot of options for temporary seasonal work in the Marine Sciences, like when you go out on a boat for a month or something... I'll just try to keep my options open.

If you have concerns about oil prices on the rise and think you'll have need for a truck in the near future, why not get a diesel and make/use biodiesel in that scenario?
