BE is nominated for two Writer's Guild of America Awards -- HBO's ambitious "Boardwalk Empire" was one of only two new shows to break into the top categories. It was nominated for drama series and new series.

One of the responses to the article:

"Um, it wouldn't be a problem if there were equal amounts of male and female nudity."

I believe that the series' nudity still would be a problem for a lot of people. This is America. Despite the so-called sexual revolution, this country is still bothered more by sex than by violence. It seems to be the opposite in Europe.

I think that's true for the most part. Then of course there are going to be other conservative viewers who'll also skip over the violence as well. There will always be those who'll say, "I like the show, but it could do without the graphic sex and violence. But other than that...!" And of course there are others who think society is going to hell because some boy on TV kissed another boy. Gasp!

I sure wouldn't object to the suggestion of equal amounts of male and female nudity on BE, heh.

Thank you for these links, especially the one on Anna Coleman Ladd. I had never heard of her before, yet she was responsible for amazing and important work with soldiers.

I'd never heard of her before either, but yeah, she provided a great service to these soldiers and pretty much was a pioneer in medical prosthetics. Did you get to watch the video? It's fantastic to see how she and her team were able to make those men feel whole again. That first soldier was heartwarming, you could actually see him smile when he had his chin mask on. And the second soldier with the eyepatch reminded me of Harrow a lot.

Yeah, I watched the video. It's a shame there wasn't any audio. I'm sure it would be interesting to hear the soldiers' thoughts, but the Smithsonian article fills in the gaps there a bit. Ladd was such a renaissance woman.
