My voice lesson on Friday sucked far less. What he's telling me to do is finally making sense, but it doesn't make the previous lesson suck any less (seriously, I almost wanted to give up singing, except I knew I wouldn't). Soemthing that's helped me with breathing up there is thinking "DOWN" as I go UP.

I.e., the tendency when you sing high is to pull up. Tension in the chest, loss of low breath support, pushing from the throat, etc.

So before I go up, I remind myself to release low, inhale low, and think low so that the tension doesn't creep in. :D

Thanks! Yeah, it's just so many things for me to think about. One of the more bizarre tricks / exercises is to lower myself by progressively bending my knees while singing ascending / high-lying phrases. It's really crazy how much it can help. So, I know I can do it--I just have to persuade my body to comply instead of trying to force it to.

Yeah - it takes time. You just have to do it until it becomes second nature.

Easier said that done, unfortunately, heh.

I write big reminders in my music, 'cuz out of sight, out of mind. ;)
