Personally I don't think we will ever actually see Steve and Danny kissing, but on the other hand... if the writers REALLY wanna show how "straight" they are, why all this "hints" that they are not? Why all this comments about them "having something together"?

You have to remember something. The network that hosts Hawaii Five-O is CBS.

They would light themselves on fire before they aired an open homosexual couple on a 'straight laced' cop show.

Give it a few months and some uptight stay-at-home mom will find something to complain about and they'll cancel the show, no matter how good the ratings are. That's just how CBS rolls.

Well... I have to admit: I don't know much about all this... since I'm from Austria - so the other side of the country - I have not much of a clue about the networks in the USA ^^" If not for Livejournal and other websites, I wouldn't even be able to watch "Hawaii Five-0" at all...

But maybe I will have to "search for" such things at all...

Thanks for the information...

I really really hope, they won't cancel Hawaii Five-0 all too soon... it's too good to get cancelled...

If by country, you meant world as Austria is on another continent completely.

And yeah, CBS and angry stay-at-home-moms have a habit of complaining about things to get shows canceled because they apparently have nothing better to do with their time. It's been renewed for a second season already, but we'll see how long that lasts.

However, the writers will most likely stay on the topic of long, slashy looks between Steve and Danny and keep in the running gag of them being 'married'. There won't be any actual slash on the show, ever. I imagine one of them will soon start being in a committed relationship with a woman so the whole UST with their partner will slowly die down.

It's fucking sad really. Stupid homophobic Americans. Btw, I'm Canadian.

Sorry, I meant other side of the continent... I'M sorry... *lol* I was kinda "in thoughts" when I typed this... I MEANT continent... other side of the world actually...

And thanks for all the information of CBS...

I now know again in what a "great country" i live... I mean, you should see the scenes they are showing at 7 in the evening... gay scenes that is... especially in soaps you see A LOT "naked skin" if you wanna call it like this... you don't even need to slash, because there are lots of gay couples in German TV... one of them even married recently after 2 years relationship... but well...

Long story short... I was also "afraid" that there WILL be some serious relationship eventually between Steve of Danny and some woman, but I would rather have them stay "single" and have "their moments" than "destroying" what great chemistry they have with doing something like that -.-

*sighs*

I actually posted an entry in my journal a few days ago that included my thoughts on this very subject.

In a nutshell, I think that:

- Yes, the subtext is absolutely intentional. They are aware that there are people like us who enjoy the idea of two male characters together, and they give it to us without really giving it to us. Although I wouldn't go quite as far as to say that bigger networks would never let allow one of their shows to depict an openly gay relationship (because that's not the case), I am fairly certain that Hawaii 5-0 is one of the shows that will never go there. Not only because it is an action series that most likely attracts a large male demographic, but also because it is based on another series, and people would seriously freak out if Steve and Danny became romantically involved. Old fans are already freaking out over the fact that it's not the same exact show- I agree with you about Catherine. I read a review somewhere that essentially said that they needed to introduce Catherine as a love interest to Steve ( ... )

Alex has also made some comments that made it seem like he and Scott are an item, lol. I believe he's joking, but he said something about how Scott is in love with him and lights up like a kid at Christmas(or something like that)when he comes into the room, and he said they were moving and made a joke about how that sounded like they were moving in together ( ... )

actually I know more women that like slash than who don't... but well... maybe I have just a "special circle" of friends, I don't really know... most of my friends are VERY open in this case and a lot of them I for example got to know through "Queer as folk"... well... I have to admit: I very rarely picture myself with the guys... it's not that I for example don't think Scott and Alex are not hot, they ARE, but in THIS case I'm totally not attracted to them at all *lol* I wouldn't want to "make out" with them at all ( ... )

I agree that unfortunately CBS isn't likely to do anything that deviates from the safe lands of heterosexuality in hopes of making their shows as universally popular as possible. However, to deal with your comment about would Alex and Scott be open to acting those scenes out, I don't know a lot about Alex, but it's my understanding that Scott Caan is a hard core method actor, implying that if he thinks his character would do it, he'd do it too. Also, when he was in Varsity Blues, there was a scene in which only the women were supposed to be nude (or partially nude, can't remember) and he felt that this was sexist so he got naked as well [yay]. This is my round about way of saying that as far as I'm aware he is a pretty liberal guy who brings liberal values to his work, so it by some miracle CBS did say "Screw you" to all the people who would protest such blatant homosexuality in a cop show and did write a scene between the two characters, then yes, I think that Scott Caan would do it ( ... )

thanks for the information... I have to admit: I didn'T know Scott before at all... I watched the show because of Alex... I saw him in "Moonlight" and "Three Rivers" and also in this movie with Jennife Lopez, and I have no idea, how he thinks about this, but I know there are some actors who WOULD have a problem with playing a gay role, or even kiss a person of the same sex... for example in this german Daily Soap, there is this one actor, who even let it write in his contract, that he will NEVER will have to kiss a guy... but I guess, there are always "black sheeps" in this case ( ... )

*points to the other two* Yeah, what they said, unfortunately. Homosexuality is a very controversial topic in this country. Which I will never understand, but that's another rant for another day, really, and not very on topic for your post.

Honestly, while it's great to hear that the show's been picked up for another season (I mean really, YAY! I hadn't heard that until I read emocezi's comment.), I fully expect to see a lot of the UST that we've been seeing between our boys be toned down a lot, if it doesn't disappear completely. And it's just a matter of time before one or the other (or both) of them find a female interest. That's just how American TV is.

It's really annoying that most network TV is "sanitized for our protection." *rolls eyes*

Also, I have to ask WHAT show is that in your sidebar? The clips are very interesting. ^_^
