And it only took 2 years

I finally tackled my Wacom tablet this past weekend. MB bought it for me 2 years ago, but I've been hissing and spitting at it like a feral cat for a while now. What changed? Well, Photoshopping using a mouse is doing a number on my right hand and shoulder. Old, knobby broad is old. I am excited about being able to create a fluid line, however - I' ( Read more... )

Good luck with it! I'll be really interested to see how you get on - I've only tried to use one once a couple of years ago and it was exactly as you say - brain, hand and eyes all disconnected!

Since I have to deal with brain/eye disconnection when I'm drawing anyway, I am determined to sort out the tablet dissonance ;) Gotta do what all the cool kids are doing!

I don't even have a mouse... it's ridiculous. I should learn how to use Photoshop properly one of these days.

Holy crap, really? I couldn't handle that. I've done some Photoshop stuff on the MAC using just the touchpad, but it drove me bonkers and I plugged in a mouse before I had a meltdown. Does RJH use a mouse, or no?

I drives RJH crazy to even see me attempt to use Photoshop with a trackpad and he keeps pointing out that he uses a mouse. I don't actually use Photoshop for finished illos - I use it to make my photos look better, or sometimes to mock up print designs before carving... but still I realize I'm doing things the hard way and should get my act together.

I agree with RJH. It's not like you're cut off from techniques or tools by using just the trackpad, but I find that I flick through things and switch from tools with greater ease using a mouse. I could show you some stuff, if you're interested (?)...

Ooh, good luck with the Wacom! I use one at work and managed to find some good tutorial videos with exercises that let me do a lot more in Photoshop now.
