::sigh::

I used to live in Toronto and I find this so awful that my former home is now known internationally for this, as opposed to all the good and wonderful things I love about it.

Even worse is that he was elected in the first place, and worst of all is how many people, at least in the GTA who still think he's the best mayor ever because he cut taxes. He's also a racist and a homophobe, but apparently that doesn't matter because he's so 'fiscally responsible'.

Not that you need to be told any of that.

Stewart's take on the whole thing is hilarious, but it's humiliating to have to watch.

The lowering of taxes thing is a bit deceptive as he just scrapped some newly-implemented taxes and then didn't raise property taxes to compensate for the lost revenue. The city is still achingly broke. The TTC is a travesty. The police force is underfunded and overstretched. Infrastructure is a joke (have you heard about the CHUNKS of the Gardiner Expressway that routinely fall onto traffic on Lakeshore Blvd.?)... we are deeply fucked, and all he can do is leap from one gigantic P.R. hole of his own making to another.

Sadly, none of the folks salivating for his job are much better (although I don't think any of them smoke crack...).

Wow. That's even more depressing. Hopefully the other candidates are better than they seem? Maybe?

I'm really feeling sorry for Mrs. Ford these days. I gather, as the judge said, she has some *ahem* issues of her own... but seriously. You know she was there when he opened his big mouth yesterday? Then he decided to push through the scrum and the Globe's photog got knocked over (and she has enough injuries to deal with).

What got me yesterday was that the Argos publically asked him to remove their jersey because his remarks did not fit with their policies on respecting women and anti-bullying. Our former football coach and part-time mayor is now embarrassing our football team so much that they don't want him wearing their insignia.

I liked Stewart's line about Anthony Weiner.

Dude Solo and I were watching the Jon Stewart-WHHHAAAATTTT?-chair part over and over because that is pretty much where we're at with this now.

The Star went and interviewed a bunch of P.R./political advisers/psychologists/etc. about the "pussy" statement and everyone agreed that it should be the final nail in his coffin. But knowing this city's luck... probably not.

My sympathy for Mrs. Ford is limited - after all, she did marry him, and I'm not convinced that he wasn't always this boorish/bullying/racist/homophobic/self-destructive, even before the massive addiction issues.

I'm pretty sure she's a hot mess too, but you know, she can embarass herself without his help (plus the domestic disturbance calls and so forth)...

Who knows? Ford nation defies any rational logic. They really seem to belive that he's a 'regular' guy (he's fabulously weathy) and an underdog and seem to miss the sexist/racist/homophobic buffoon with substance abuse issues, who puts lives in danger by drinking and driving or reading and driving, and spends his time bullying people and hanging with criminals.
