Indeed! I don't know what I'm going to do with the spider that this point, but he's involved.

I love the idea that she saved the spider and that came back to her - great use of a fairy tale trope. I can see where this will raise the stakes when you come back to it, and it's compelling to get a hint that the chase is accelerating!

Thank you. Ideally I would have the snake come back, too, though I'm not entirely sure about that.

One of the problems with having Fay be stuck with the witch was that she was stuck with the witch, and I've been hard pressed to get her out of the situation, especially as I'm not sure where the heart of the tree is myself.

Yeah, but pits of despair is a classic hero location, so there's gotta be something in it :) Have you seen the Hero's Journey/Joseph Campbell stuff? Because there might be some archetypes and classic structures in that that inspire you. Star Wars is an example of a classic Hero's Journey structure, and I'd bet Harry Potter is pretty close to it.

You know what, that's a good point. I am familiar with Hero's Journey, so I guess her time with the witch could kind of be a "in the belly of the whale" kind of thing. It's been a while since I read up on the Hero's Journey, so I may go back and explore it again.

Thanks! Some spiders can be very nice once you get to know them. :)

Being patient to wait and see, wait and see is so spider-y.
Liking these new twists.

Heh. I hadn't thought of the wait and see being connected to spider-style patience. Thank you for pointing it out. :)

I love that the plot is thickening enough to include Fay being a part of a greater venture, more complicated, and involving more at stake. I think this was a great addition for this week, it really added quite a bit.
