I'm currently (and very slowly) attempting my first screenplay, so I'll keep an eye out for whatever else you say on the subject. I know I haven't structured this first attempt very well. Hopefully it's something I can fix :)
Well, we're starting with a short script, and if all goes well we'll expand it into a feature.
First we worked out the beats, which is basically a very simple outline. - Sister comes home to find her brother slacking. - Zombie mom is doing menial labor. - Sister, thinking mom's alive, attempts a reunion. - Mom attacks sister. - Etc.
Once we beat the outline all to hell and worked it to where we liked it, we moved onto the next think. In this case we're writing it in short story format, only what can be visually seen, and no dialogue.
I'm not sure if there's another step in there before we actually lay down the script. But that's where we're currently at.
