Happy Valentines Day (if you are so inclined).

Valentines is one of those holidays that I feel rather ambivalent about. Sure, it's nice to have a day to acknoledge your love for another, but I tend to lean toward my sister's point of view. If you love someone, why should you wait for one specific holiday to show that love. Love is year round and should be expressed year round (which is why my ( Read more... )

It's my kid's birthday.

Not only that, but our house is the House of Instant Gratification, so we have "I Love You Day." That's the day that I buy my husband a present because I saw something he really wants and I can't wait until his birthday or Xmas or anything else. Or he does something nice for me while similarly not waiting for an Officially Sanctioned Occasion.

So, everyone wins. We don't wait for a fake holiday where we feel obligated to buy prezzies/cards/candy, and the kid gets her birthday all to herself.

See, I love that, I Love You Days. I think that's great. That's really how I'm more inclined to look at it. Who wants to wait for a holiday to shower someone with love or praise? Not me. :)

I'd like to get together with you sometime soon. Watch a movie, or something. I've been missing you.

I agree it is a hard "holiday" to pin down. I think I prefer to sentiment to the hype. It seems to be a favorite of media types who find stupid pet tricks inspiring. The air is full of stupidness.

This year I had planned on being with writer friends reading erotic/neurotic poetry. I had fun prepping for it but then the ice/snow storm shot it down. But we will do it on another day, probably in April.

Now that would be a fun way to do the holiday. I'm sorry to hear the event couldn't happen, would've been fun. But there's alway April, like you said. :)

It's just another reason to buy my kids lotsa candy they don't need. Otherwise, I have no interest in it at all.

And for yourself, too, right, because if the candies in the house for the kids, it usually ends up in momms's mouth too. At least, that's the way it is here. :)
