Whose bright idea was it that I should start exercising? Whoever came up with that lame ass idea should be shot. Oh wait...yeah, I'm the idiot who came up with that idea. Since I'm not going to shoot myself I suppose I'll just have to grumble and whine a bit instead. Except that to be honest I'm really not going to grumble. Whine, yes, but ( Read more... )

rambling, exercise

My trainer used to tell me that if I didn't have problems getting off the toilet the next day then I wasn't working hard enough. I do remember that pain, though I haven't worked out in over a year.

Really? Wow. To be honest I don't want to be in that kind of pain most of the time. I think there has to be a happy medium where I know I'm going to be uncomfortable after a heavy workout and not being sure I'll be able to get up off the pot. For one thing I live alone and I don't think my cats will give me a helping paw. *g*

See, my trainer would never say something like that to me, because he recognized straight off that if I were in pain exercise would have a negative connotation for me. So he concentrated on upper body and core stability exercises and cardio until I lost enough weight that exercise wasn't as painful.

To be honest I'm not sure Scott has ever worked with someone as fat and out of shape as I am. This means a bit of a learning curve for both of us. I think he's being easy on me in some areas and maybe pushing a bit hard in others. It's important that I be proactive and speak up if I think he's asking me to do more than I can do without being really sore. The problem is I don't want to be a wuss either. But I do know that lunges are something I'll start doing again once the soreness is done but instead of 20 I'll do 5 or 10.

Mostly I find that it's more pleasant to Have Exercized than the feelings I have While Exercizing. Although, yoga on good days is actually kind of fun....

Much like my writing icon, really. :-)

I love the feeling right after. I feel energized and the pain hasn't set in yet. *g*

I swear I thought I was going to have to borrow Bud's toilet seat extender because trying to get up and down was just total agony.

Oiy! I’d forgotten all about that little benefit to working out again! Ouch. Isn’t it amazing just how many muscles we use in everyday life without realizing it. (Until they join forces to start a rebellion and protest each and every movement we ask them to make. ;))

No kidding! I've got muscles where I never knew I had them. *g* I was fully expecting to hurt like crazy for the first few weeks but I'll admit I wasn't prepared as much as I thought. *g* Oh well. Eventually they'll get stronger so I can do more and more exercize and feel less pain. ::hopes::

If you hurt this much, then they are working you to hard! When I started exercising, I had to keep stopping my trainer from giving me exercises that would have hurt me - like full body sit ups with my legs straight out (throw the lower back out much), weights too heavy for me, too much treadmill (problems with nerve numbness in legs) etc. I didn't slack off but I also had some respect for my 60 year old body. It's now 6 months and 12 pounds less later. I can do 50 sit ups with knees bent, 20-30 arm exercises with 8 pound weights and 25 minutes on the bike and an equal time on the treadmill. So, that's not a bad record for six months. Just keep it up and little by little you'll improve. There's no point in pushing you so hard that you can't function afterwards because that will just turn you off (unless you're into maschoism?)
Keep it up!

Masochism is definitely not a part of my makeup. Although a tendency to jump first and ask questions later can be. *g* I think part of my problem is I don't want to appear to be a wuss so I push myself a bit more than I should. I'm learning though. *g*

Yay for exercise! And feel free to "bore me" at length, because of course you're not boring me at all. I'm incredibly impressed about the slant board sit ups== I've never tried any of those, and 25 of them is amazing!

I think someone in better shape can go back farther than I do, but heck...I'm not complaining about my performance. If doing those suckers helps give me abs stronger than goo than I'll be happy.
