Cahir and Cashel

It's very appropriate that I'm posting some photos of Ireland on Saint Patrick's Day. Happy Paddy's Day everyone!

On the Monday I went in a different direction, this time inland to the north-east. I first stopped at the small village of Cahir (pronounced Care)  where there is a rather fine small castle with an interesting history. I'm a big fan of ( Read more... )

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you as well.

Cahir Castle is pretty interesting, isn't it? I really liked it a lot and when I was there Swiss Cottage was open as well. It's a nice little house ...

I love the shots of Cashel with the gloomy sky - so appropriate, don't you think? And I esp. love the one of the Abbey with the sheep in front ...

I thought that Cahir Castle was great. I spent much more time there than I did at Cashel.

I was a little annoyed when I saw that photo of the sheep in front of the abbey on my computer for the first time because I was really hoping that the sheep would be in focus rather than the abbey, but I still like it. And, yes, the gloomy skies in the photos I took at Cashel are very appropriate. :)))

Happy St. Patty's to ya! I love these pictures. I want to visit Ireland so badly! Backpacking is so much fun--always an adventure. It was really sweet of you to give that lady a ride!

I'm sure you would love it in Ireland. Nowhere is very far away from anywhere else and it's fairly easy to get around, once you've got the hang of the road signs. I've only driven in three countries, the UK, New Zealand and now Ireland, all of which drive on the left, so I'm going to have to dip my toe into the water of driving on the 'wrong' side of the road at some point. :)))

When you go to Canada sometime, you can drive on the right side ;)

Happy St.Patrick's Day to you, too! :D
Amazing photos of some of my favourite places again. :D
Hmmmh, for the Mitchelstown Caves you have to ring the bell at one of the houses, then the owners will come out and guide you. Wasn't anyone there? Or maybe she didn't know that? It's a pity as they're beautiful! :o

Thanks.
Yes, there was a sign that said to knock on the door of the farmhouse (or ring the bell, I can't remember), but I just felt guilty leaving her there with no obvious means of transport to be able to leave afterwards. There were no other cars there and I could tell that it was way off any bus route. I'm sure she would have found someone at home at the farmhouse and saw the caves, I don't know if she found a way back and I just hope it wasn't walking all the way back to the main road and then hoping for a lift. I'm sure she was fine, but I just felt guilty, but she said she would be fine and seemed confident enough.

ah yes, ok, it IS very off everything there and far away from bigger roads (to walk from)...

Thanks!!! Happy St. Patrick's day! Stone crosses made me feel in a very strange way. Have to get some Guinness :-)
Thanks again!!!

Thank you. I loved those Celtic stone crosses. Although I'm not a religious person I still love churches, abbeys and the things that come with them. And I'm sure they are all much better after a few pints of Guinness! :)))

Thank you. :))

Well, I feel very privileged to have been to places in Ireland that you haven't! :))

I was quite surprised to see the snowy mountains, (actually, I agree with you, they are hills really!) especially at this time of the year. I don't think it's usual.
