Cork and Killarney

It's hard to believe that, already, these photos were taken over a week ago. Where does the time go?

On the Sunday of my stay in Ireland, I decided I would venture into Cork City in the morning. It seemed the perfect time to me, the sun was shining and there wouldn't be too many people around and the traffic would be very light. So, I aimed my ( Read more... )

I love the colourful Irish Houses as well! :-)

If you ever get back to Killarney and want to treat yourself stay at The Brehon

That certainly would be a treat! Staying there might be a bit out of my league, but eating there would be a must!

In the next day or two I'll post photos I took in Kinsale on the morning I left for home. The colour combinations there were brilliant!

I stayed there for 2 nights a couple of years ago - it's a really lovely hotel. It was part of a package tour, so I was never aware how much the rooms are ... ahem ...

Eight years is a long time - you really should go back! :))

I was really not prepared for a blizzard. When I got back to my hotel just on the edge of Cork and was talking to the nice lady on reception, she asked me what kind of day I'd had. I told her about the blizzard and she just wouldn't believe me until I showed her the photos on the screen of my camera.

And yes, I had to take the 'Guinness is good for you' photo; it's almost like you haven't been to Ireland at all unless you've done that! :)))

I loved it that you could approach a small village that had maybe six or seven buildings in it and they would all be different colours (and three of them were probably pubs!)

I will have to try Cork again to find out if it really rocks, but you have been right about everything else, so I have no reason to doubt you! :)))

Beautiful! I love the colours of the houses.
I'm hoping to get to Ireland one day (along with many many other places!) It just seems so different to Canada & Australia :)
Haha, it's been hot here the past few days, an we're just coming off summer, so while I realize winter's just finishing in the northern hemisphere, somehow I was completely thrown off by you saying it was snowing at first! Lol.

PS On a separate note, I think you may find enjoyment in this blog (or possibly jealousy) It was on the LJ Spotlight last week. http://sarahdownundah.livejournal.com/

Jealousy doesn't even cover it! I definitely want to be her friend! Thanks so much for pointing it out, seeing her photos and reading her wonderful descriptions of the world around her make me miss New Zealand so much. It's a real delight to see someone obviously enjoying New Zealand as much as I did and getting so much pleasure from reporting that to the world. :))
I sooooo want to be her friend. I'll have to drop her a comment!

one of my friends emigrated to Cork. He's been living there for 2 or 3 years now. Is it a big city?

It's funny you should say that, most of the people I spoke to (serving in shops and in restaurants) were Polish.

Cork is Ireland's second largest city, but it's not huge - probably about the same size as Bristol I would guess. It's a nice place though, and I imagine that your friend would like it there. I loved the laid-back attitude that I found in Ireland.

I was thinking of you on Sunday. I had my wonderful cousin Hannah staying for the week-end. On Saturday evening she said that she really wanted to visit a castle, so on Sunday morning I took her to Nunney Castle and then we called in at Glastonbury for a coffee on the way home - both places that I now associate with you more than anyone else! :)))
