Санкт-Петербург buildings

Julia had told me not to go out on my own because it could be dangerous for me. It was very wise advice and I'm very grateful, but on Sunday morning I felt like escaping for a little while. There weren't too many people around and I thought it should be okay. I decided that I would walk along Nevsky Prospekt, from my hotel, but in the direction ( Read more... )

St. Petersburg is really awesome - I esp. like the large square and all those beautiful buildings. Though I usually don't like pastel colours I think the houses look nice! :-)

That square is really impressive, and huge. I know what you mean about pastel colours, but here they work brilliantly and such a variety of colours has been used that it keeps it all interesting. :))

The monument - it is not Peter the Great, it is Alexander Nevsky )
Peter the Great is known as a Bronze Horseman

Thanks dear. Of course, I couldn't read what it said at the base of the monument, which would probably have given me a clue! :))
What do you think of the rest of my city photos?

I'm so glad that we saw the man playing music on the wine glasses, especially as we had been discussing him before, and, as I say, I will treasure the CD for ever! :)))

I know this may be random but you remind me of someone I used to know. I can't quite explain how but its good because I kinda miss having him around at times! :))

Thank you. :)))

It's a fascinating place, full of inconsistencies and contradictions, just the sort of place I fall for! :))

I love them! I love the look of the buildings especially, and the colour of the sky - that is a phenomenal blue! I've never really considered going to Russia (well, I have, but there are other places I've been more thinking of visiting) but your pictures are changing my mind! It's a beautiful place!

I'm curious though, b/c I'm always curious about global chains, but did you go to the McDonalds there, and if so, is the menu pretty much the same, or are there different things on the menu? Though I'm sure you wouldn't go to McDonalds when you're in a foreign country, I don't think I would! I was just curious :) And I love seeing McDonalds written in Russian!

The buildings are gorgeous, and will be even better in a couple of years when they have finished all the restoration. It's somewhere I had wanted to go for a long time, but I don't know how I would have managed without some wonderful Russian friends around. The language barrier is only part of the story, there is also the matter of the Cyrillic script as well. In most European countries, even if I didn't speak of understand the language, I would have a pretty good idea of what signs were telling me, in Russia this was much much harder. I think it's the sort of place that you can get a lot out of visiting, if you're prepared to go with an open mind and accept things for what they are. Then it's an incredibly rewarding place to go to ( ... )

No worries, I figured you hadn't gone in. I don't go to a lot of those places often, just if in a rush (or after the bar late at night :P) Especially not when traveling, just wondering if you knew.

I don't think I knew you were vegetarian though!

I do like the sign though! :D
