A friend of mine (who I haven't seen in the better part of a year, since she got a girlfriend) got in touch with me this week, hey, how are you, let's catch up, to which I said yes, definitely, coffee this weekend, and so we set it up for this afternoon

Whenever she asks for a get together, casually ask, is (blank) okay with being a third wheel? After all, she and I don't know each other, and she didn't look that comfortable when we discussed my (personal whatevers) I'd hate for you two to fight or be distant on the way home. (sounding innocently concerned of course)

I don't think I could pull that off without coming over as sarcastic even if I meant it sincerely, unfortunately. But maybe I could at least ask if girlfriend will be there when she asks about getting together.
