I want to get back to book reviews, but I've fallen so far behind that it's become daunting. It seems absurd to go back to 2012, but there are three books I read toward the end of the year that I very much enjoyed and want to remember. So, really quickly:

My 9 year old just finished The Mark of Athena. He got it for Christmas and avidly devoured about the first hundred pages then seemed to lose interest. Funny, because he blew through all of the other Rick Riordan's novels without stopping to breathe. I wondered if this one was as good as the rest ...

Hmmm...the latest series, of which this is the third, is narrated by multiple characters instead of just Percy Jackson like the first series. This is the first of the new ones where two narrators are girls...

Probably more importantly, as the kids get older, there's more of a focus on romance and how it affects group dynamics. That may have been less interesting for your son? I have a nephew the same age, and I definitely can't see him being interested in teenage romance! I like that the stories are maturing with the main characters, though that probably also has a lot to do with me being an adult and reading YA books. But hey, a good story is a good story!

Very likely that's it. He found the latter Harry Potter books less interesting too because of the teen component and addition of more romance. Plus he doesn't really have "girl" friends so to have a story narrated by a girl probably feels weird to him. Thanks for that. :)

A good story is definitely a good story, no matter genre or style!
