Ooh, and Gul Dukat--I wavered between hating him, then gaining a bit of sympathy for him when he decided to save his daughter, then going back to hating him. He was quite an interesting character. I think that's a very insightful observation that you made--that he's even more despicable (or perhaps it's sad, depending on one's point of view) because he could have been a good man if he'd chosen to be.
And I've never read Jeeves & Wooster before, but now you've made me curious! *Adds to my already very long "to read" list.*

I do often put in some throwaway references to Snape not being toweringly tall when I'm writing, but I've never made it a major feature of a story. Hmmm...
(Oh, and it occurs to me too late that there IS one man at Hogwarts who doesn't look tall to he eleven-year olds: Flitwick!)
