Some are born grumpy, some achieve grumpiness...

And some have grumpiness thrust upon them by a 7 AM phone call after a whole three hours of sleep. As I am still jet-lagged and apparently operating on West Coast time, this is well nigh intolerable. (Seriously, does anybody have any tips for getting over jet lag that don't boil down to "Try to go to bed at a less insane hour"? Because I am ( Read more... )

Seriously, does anybody have any tips for getting over jet lag that don't boil down to "Try to go to bed at a less insane hour"? Because I am doing that, and it is not working.

It's harder because the sun's still up pretty late. Darkening your room as completely as possible starting about an hour before you intend to go to sleep is a start. (In school they advised us that nurses and others working third shift should wear super-dark wrap-around sunglasses driving home to make it easier to transition to sleep.) If all else fails, melatonin is supposed to help reset your sleep-wake cycle, though I've not tried it.

And wow, what a recap! So glad you had such a great time!

Ah, the darkened room is good advice, because yeah, the sun doesn't go down until very late these days. I should try that. Maybe I'll try to meditate before bedtime, too; that's always very soothing for me and gets me relaxed.

Glad you're enjoying the recap! I know I enjoyed reading your Portus recaps last year. They made me feel like I was a part of the action, or at least not so far away from it.

I've made GingerSnapes too. But they weren't pregnant...

Not visibly so, at least. ;-)

Those are so adorable, by the way! I have an idea about making Snape-themed treats for Infinitus, but I'll have to do some experimenting to see if the idea pans out.

Ah, Steve. The "bucket-o-drunken-femmeslash" incident. wtf indeed.

This was an amazing recap! For not writing this down earlier, you has a pretty good memory going on there. :D I wish I'd been able to make it to the readings earlier! I came in just at the end of sunnythirty3's reading. :/

Next time.

Also, re: diner's SF has shockingly good ones! Even I was impressed at some of them. ;)

Um, yes, that was the incident I had in mind! I'm not sure even he knows what happened there.

I'm glad you're enjoying the recaps. I'm having fun remembering back and writing it all down! I'm kicking myself for not having taken any notes during the con, though. I should have done that. Should have taken more pictures, too.

Yeah, I know the timing for the readings was a little bit difficult, and we were competing against Snapefest, too. But I enjoyed reading, and I'm glad you were able to see and hear some of them! Wasn't Sunny's a hoot? :D

And yes, diners! I hadn't realized there were so many, and they were all so good. Yum!

The weekend should give you a good chance to reset from the jet lag. As someone who CHRONICALLY messes up her sleep cycle, I personally recommend staying up as necessary until an hour or two before your normal bed time. That is, don't go to sleep tonight. Schedule some easy stuff to catch up on tomorrow. Nothing with sharp implements. Laundry's a good fit.

Friday was SUCH a good con day. I'm gobsmacked and flattered by your description of moi. Lack of sleep usually makes me a bit manic and rambly, and I was concerned that I was a bit over the top. Dinner Friday night was SO much fun, especially including the Watermelon beer. Mmmmmmm.

Thank you for the body clock reset advice! I think you may be on to something there. I suspect that part of the reason I avoided jet lag on the way out was because I stayed up for more than 24 hours, so I slept in until a reasonable time the next morning. I need to try to do the same thing here, and you're right that the weekend is the perfect opportunity. Here's hoping!

Friday was a fantastic day! You were definitely not over the top at all, and I happen to think you're cute as a button. :D Introvert that I am, I marvel at your ability to make strangers laugh and smile and feel at ease. Also, the pregnant Snape cookies were just pure, unadulterated win.

And mmmm yes, that dinner was fun and delicious. The watermelon beer did look good, although I loved my Back in Black.

Another great con post, dear! As for resetting your clock, if all else fails, two or three nights of Ambian CR should set you to rights. It really does work.
