Interesting stuff! I've never heard of this, but the idea of measuring out every part of every meal... we had/have to do that for my brother for his entire life, and it's incredibly tiresome.

Small side-note... I think it was you that mentioned being a fan of Anthony Bourdain? I don't know if you watch the Bravo show "Top Chef", but he's going to be in tonight's episode and it looks to be a good one. :D Just thought I'd let you know!

I didn't realize that your brother has to measure everything...that would be tiresome indeed! I suppose it'd help at least a little though as it's part of his life his whole life. At least (I assume anyway) he's not having to feast on Quorn, which sounds none too appetizing to me.

I am indeed a Tony Bourdain fan--I so want to have his little foodie babies! :-P I'd heard about his Top Chef appearance coming up, and I'm definitely curious about it (doesn't seem his sort of thing), but unfortunately, I'm sans cable and will be making the long drive to my grandmother's house this evening during TV time. Ho hum. :-(

First, what is Quorn? XD It sounds like an old-school arcade game or something.

Second, yeah, it's been his whole life, so HE's used to it and handles the majority of it himself now. But it's not due to dieting, (un)fortunately - he has a genetic disorder called PKU, or Phenylketonuria, that seriously affects what he can and can't eat.

Too bad about the show (he really appeared to be ripping some folks apart in the preview, yay!) but it'll probably be up on YouTube or something when it's done. ^_^ Have a safe drive!!

My understanding is that Quorn is a fermented soy-free fungus thingy that can be processed to taste like meat and is super low in fat and high in protein. Yum...I mean, ew.

I remember you mentioning your brother has PKU...I just never can remember what he can or cannot eat.

I'll definitely check YouTube tomorrow. :-P

I have read about this diet before, the main point that you extend your lifetime. The studies on mice, show that they live longer and don't have memory problems. They never take human diseases into account in these studies. I would invite anyone who thinks extending your lifespan too long is a good thing, to go walking through a nursing home.
Wouldn't it be better to enjoy yourself, and live life to to fullest instead of restricting what you eat. So maybe you die at 70 instead of 80, at least you had more fun.

That's how I feel...it's better live a rich full life and have it end a few years sooner than live a long, long life and have it not be as fufilling.
