[Miller reacts instantly, turning to the origin of the cry and grabbing the fist that's heading for him, twisting it painfully to the boy's back in one smooth motion.]
Not a bad thought to take your enemy by surprise, but you can't sneak up on me.
[He leans in closer, causing greater strain on that arm as he's close enough to press his rock hard abs against it.]
[Miller feels that impact and grunts at it, but he is not incapacitated. He surpasses the growing boy in pure strength as well, and demonstrates this by forcibly knocking Liquid's feet out from underneath him and falling to the ground on top of him. Built as he is, Miller's almost 200 pounds of solid muscle and he doesn't hold back, knowing anything less would rightly irritate his student.]
I like that about you, soldier, but if you're too cocky, you're going to get burned.
[That's a shame because Miller is certainly thinking about him. He didn't exactly lose sleep over it, but since the boy didn't show again that day and now that he's ditched this week's session as well, Miller's decided to take some action.]
[With a notably serious presence, his heavy footsteps go through the base, starting with the cafeteria, the gyms, the pool, and eventually, heading to the kill house.]
[It's easy to spot that head of long blond hair there. Coming in closer, Miller sits himself down on a bench roughly fifteen feet behind Liquid, waiting for him to finish rather than startling an emotional boy with a gun. The shots are loud, but it's not anything he can't handle.]
[It's almost pitch black outside by the time Miller's gone to look for his student. That dear pupil of his has gone and missed dinner, alerting him to the fact that something isn't right.]
[He sure does get himself a good exercise looking for him, though. The gym is fairly far from the cafeteria and Miller is relieved to see him there. It's fairly shortlived, however, spotting that Liquid is bleeding and does not even seem to notice. For sure, something went wrong.]
[His shout echoes through the large room as he enters.]
[Miller sighs as he continues to stride forward. A part of him is proud to see his student using the skills he helped him develop, but it's a bit problematic when he needs to speak with him.]
[Walking close enough to him to be within arm's reach, he throws a meaty arm around Liquid's neck and pulls him to himself, his grip tight enough that it should bring the boy out of his trance.]
[Deep and rich laughter sounds through Miller's apartment. On the couch sits the Hell Master with a petite woman on his lap facing him. Though she's not too young, her smile hides her age... though it would be hard to say exactly who would be focusing on her face when Miller's got his large hands working on the tiny clasp of her bra, her dress shirt already discarded on the floor.]
[What the Master doesn't know is that the door to his apartment remains unlocked. He meant to lock it when they came back, of course, but he fell weak to temptation and left his job half-done.]
[He growls in playful frustration just before he finally unhooks her bra and frees her from it.]
[It's shortly after Liquid's 17th birthday that Miller sits alone on the pier, looking out at the ocean. His sunglasses sit next to him, not even folded as he pinches the bridge of his nose, expression pained.]
[He's not even angry. He's being so sincere right now. Having found out that he's... inadequate to be a father, not suitable to be anyone's lifelong partner, he's rather discontent. Of course, a man with his lifestyle is expected to die young, right? Or to be an instructor until the day he dies, forever being a hardass on his soldiers, loving them like children and then sending them to perish

[Miller stands and takes a few long strides forward, eyes looking over his student again for injury or illness.]
You don't look like you're sick. Why didn't you come?
[His voice his even, not too hard, but not too gentle either. He's disappointed that Liquid skipped out.]

Liquid?! How did you get in here?
[The woman presses herself against him in a belated attempt to hide her undressed state.]
I'm a little busy right now...
[His tone is threatening to hide his embarrassment at letting his guard down.]

[He's slightly sorry his prized pupil has to see him like this. But perhaps he won't be his student for much longer.]
[Eventually, he speaks, but far too quietly for a man who spends all day barking at recruits.]
... Yeah. I'm taking the day off.
