I have not traveled to conventions of any kind outside my city, though some have been very tempting. Usually it's mostly abut me being a starving musician, etc

I had fun last year, though it ended up being very small filk-wise, but apparently that was unusual, largely due to illness and a couple of people who couldn't make it.
It does (again, based off one year, so take with a large grain of salt) seem to be a /very/ general con, which is good and bad. There's a lot of /different/ stuff to do, but there's not necessarily a full track of any one thing for every timeslot.
Still, I enjoyed it, though I don't know that I'll be going this year. (It depends on finances, scheduling and a number of other similar factors.)
I've been to several V-Cons and enjoyed them tremendously. Especially the one where I finally arrived Friday, around midnight, and found Greg (whose last name I forget) and John Caspell trading blues licks ... for more than an hour after I got there. They'd already been doing that before I arrived, or so I was told.
I don't know whether I'll be able to go this year but it's a nice, mellow gen-con, with what's often a very good filk track - about the size of a house filk, usually, and very high quality. I encourage you to go!
Thanks, at this point I really want to go, still hoping for more details about what they want me to do as a panelist, and mostly working out what it will cost, including getting documentation that I've been meaning to get for a few years now but put off. Plus, I'm hoping someone I know and feel comfortable sharing a crash space with will be there.

So, yeah, VCon is going Steampunk this year and each year it gets bigger. Plus Canadians are just friendly people. You'll like them, and they will LOVE you! Definitely worth a trip. And no, we are moving to Florida, so I'm not going to be able to go this year.
And Happy Birthday! Keep the music going, you make me sing... and about half the fen in this corner of the galaxy... o, nvm, HB, CD!
