What is mitochondrial DNA?

Can anybody answer that?  It's one of the stupid questions I had to come with for the stupid Q&A part of the presentation.  My article I have to present to the class is How Science Solves Crimes.

Mitochondria are organelles inside of cells that produce energy. They have their own set of DNA, not as much as a nucleus of a regular cell but a good amount.

And it's only inherited from the mother gene, not the father liker egular DNA.
