Chapter 5: It's About Time, Love

JunSu eyes the silent figure in front of him before holding out a cone of green tea gelato, smiling when those big brown orbs meet his a moment later.

“It’s your favourite when you’ve problems to think of.”

ChangMin returns him a grateful smile.

“Thanks Hyung.”

They are both on the rooftop after the whole incident in the library, leaving YunHo behind. The latter has sent him a worried glance when he was about to exit the library with ChangMin for some private talk and his heart just had to soar at that moment.

JunSu thinks he knows what ChangMin is trying to tell him about, but by now, he opts to watch the students’ hectic pace as he waits for ChangMin to speak.

“I think I’m in love.”

ChangMin keeps his eyes closed as soon as he said those words, deciding to count to ten before continues.

“It’s my first time, but I know, what I feel is love.” He exhales, deep. “I love TaeYeon.”

Silence settles in the air, and before ChangMin can actually smack himself for good, he hears a muffled laughter next to him.

“Gosh, I can’t believe I’m so fortunate to hear those cheesy words from you. Ah, I should have record them!”

He watches, confused when JunSu takes out his cell phone and excitedly holds it out towards him.

“Say them again! This time I’ll definitely get them recorded!”

“You’re not mad?”

ChangMin breathes, once, twice, before face breaks into a wide smile when JunSu nonchalantly shrugs his shoulder with a grin.

“You’re not mad!”

"Well, should I?"

He immediately engulfs the smaller man into a bone crushing hug, animatedly jumping all over the place a minute later, the gelato long forgotten on the floor.

“Hyung! I thought, gosh, I really thought you’re going to be mad at me and starts kicking or punching the daylights out of me, - wait, why aren’t you doing that?”

ChangMin’s face scrunches in thoughts, and it takes him a full 30 seconds to understand the situation.

“You aren’t in love with her.”

He states, and gets a nod from his now beaming cousin.

“What?! I mean, why?! No, it’s not that I want you to have feelings for her, because man, won’t I be so brokenhearted then, but what’s with lingering by her side and asking for YunHo Hyung’s help when you don’t love her? Cause I can’t understand, and poor YunHo Hyung, that man must have been so confused because you’re so lovey dovey with him lately and, - oh, OH...OH!”

“Yeah, it’s kind of like a childish plan, isn’t it?”

JunSu asks, and earns a nod from the taller man.

“Very! But that’s just so you. So, it’s understandable.”

ChangMin receives a hard punch on his shoulder a second later.

-

“So, what are you going to do next? Confess your undying love?”

They were walking back to the library (because YunHo sent lots of messages to JunSu’s phone asking if everything’s okay and ChangMin had to restrain himself from throwing up his lunch because of the lovesick look on his cousin’s face), and through the hallway when they, well, ChangMin, spotted TaeYeon alone in front of her locker. They watch, okay, more like stalking the oblivious girl, well, until JunSu had it enough (hey, my prince charming is waiting for me, okay?).

“I don’t know! She’s the girl I’m in love with, not some mathematical problems to solve!”

ChangMin all but banging his head on the wall they’ve been hiding on repeat when some breeze blows TaeYeon’s soft hair and she just has to look that pretty, and that is certainly not good for his heart condition, you know?

“Well, my dear cousin, think fast because Yunnie has just sent me his 59th message like a second ago, saying ‘Su, come back in next 5 minutes or else!’...Ah, isn’t he sweet?”

JunSu giggles and ChangMin practically scoffs.

“Aw, isn’t he acting like possessive boyfriend already.”

“Hey, no criticizing my Yunnie!”

Apparently, JunSu’s loud outburst makes TaeYeon to turn her attention to their direction and thanks to his superb reflex skill, he simply pushes ChangMin out of their hiding corner and chuckles as he waits for his daily dose of Korean drama.

ChangMin is standing awkwardly in front his dream girl while muttering under his breaths of murdering someone name Kim JunSu when another breeze blows and he accidentally breathes in her scent.

Kill me now.

“ChangMin?”

He straight away looks up when he heard his name and feels his cheeks to heat up as his eyes meet hers the next moment.

“Y-You know my name? How...?”

“I...asked around...”

There’s a twin blush on her cheeks and his heart basically jumps in joy.

“You asked around?”

She nods shyly and he can’t help but to notice the nervous way she fiddles her pretty fingers. Does Kim TaeYeon, by chance, like Shim ChangMin too?

He smiles.

“I’m going to ask you a favour, but if you say no, I totally understand it.”

But my heart will get crushed. And he prays it will not.

She nods and he swallows down a wish.

“Will you accompany me for a cup of coffee?”

He waits, and frowns when she laughs.

“To tell you the truth, I was hoping you to invite me for a dinner since I’m rather starving. I can even eat 10 bowls of ramen now.”

She stops when he says nothing, smiling quietly at him.

“I’m scaring you, am I? A girl with big appetite and all.”

He shakes his head.

“No, you just make me love you more.”

A blink and ChangMin awkwardly scratches his head when realises what he has just said.

“Let’s go to my father’s shop!”

When he looks up, she’s already walking backward and towards the end of the hallway, a wide smile now on her face.

“Aren’t you coming, ChangMin? My father makes the best ramen.”

He turns around for a brief moment to grin at JunSu who’s still hiding at the corner, and wastes no time to run after her, fingers timidly touch as they walk next to each other.

“Hey, thanks for helping me last time.”

“You’re welcome. So, you aren’t scared of clowns anymore?”

“No, if you’re by my side.”

And by reaching the end of the hallway, ChangMin musters up some courage and softly takes her hand into his own.

“I’ll protect you.”

-

JunSu sniffs loudly at the scenes he has just witnessed.

“That’s SO romantic and SO unfair! Why must his love story to be SO fast-paced than mine?”

He is now frowning sadly as he sits under one of the tress near the small lake, a little more depressed with himself when he realises it is YunHo’s favourite tree.

He sighs when he feels some familiar stinging pain behind his eyelids and tears fall soon after. He’s going to man himself up after some good crying when his cell phone vibrates inside his pocket, he receives a call instead from YunHo.

“Hello?”

“Su, where are you?”

He smiles hearing to his best friend’s worried voice.

“Well, I’m just, somewhere.”

“Just somewhere won’t do. I’m going to you now. Wait for me.”

He is surprised to find YunHo has hung up less than second later.

“How is he going to find me when he doesn’t even know where I am? And he even asked me to wait, but it’s been 5 years.”

He chuckles, a tint of gloom in between and decides to wait.

It’s exactly 3 minutes later when he feels a presence to tower over him and he looks up, eyes wide.

“Yun...”

JunSu immediately stands up, and hastily wipes out the remaining tears on his face, a small laugh when he meets the other’s brown orbs. There’s something, however, inside those orbs that he can’t fathom.

“ChangMin is not here.”

“He left.”

“And he’s not alone.”

YunHo briefly states, all but eyes never leave him, and he blinks.

“He’s with TaeYeon.”

“Why is it him with her instead of you?”

YunHo walks and he steps backward, one, two, three, until the taller man traps him against the tree and he stares, eyes wide. As much as he loves being close to the man, he can’t understand why his best friend is acting weird right now.

“Yun...?”

“Answer me, Su.”

“ChangMin fell in love, he loves her.”

He feigns an uncomfortable look when YunHo just has to take a step closer and his heart beats hard on his ribcage.

“And you?”

“What about me?”

“Don’t you feel hurt?”

JunSu looks down for a moment, a lone tear falls as he looks up back to him.

“If only she’s the person I’m in love with for the past 5 years instead of you.”

There’s an unmistaken relief flickers inside his best friend’s eyes as soon as he said that.

And what happen next just steals his breaths away.

He watches as YunHo smiles wide, large hands gently cradles his way to touch his cheeks and he unconsciously leans in to the touch. It’s then when he feels lips against his own, softly caressing him into a slow kiss and his knees begin to buckle under the touch.

YunHo is quick to react as he lifts the smaller man again against the tree. They look at each other for a moment, warm, heavy breaths mingle as YunHo lightly touches the red hue of JunSu’s lips and the latter instinctively leans in, this time taking the lead and never breaking the kiss.

It's about time.
