Aww, so sweet ! And yay for a story from you today! I love that Reid shares the book and picture and his memory- really giving Luke his past there. So nice! Perfect gift for Luke all the way!
It shows you how much a geek I am that I just researched Luke's claim that Reid's gift was worth "millions." Frankly, I was a little dubious although first editions can be very valuable, "The Great Gatsby" is still a 20th century novel ... ie: not *that* old.
So FYI, I looked it up and .... Luke's claim is probably an exaggeration but not by as much as I thought. Though it's really that dust jacket with the iconic "blue face" artwork that truly makes the book valuable which makes sense since dust jackets tend to get destroyed, lost etc. Anyway, without a dust jacket, a first edition "Gatsby" in decent condition only runs about $2000-$3000. However, WITH the dust jacket in decent condition, the value of a first edition goes way up to about $250,000!
Yeah, I had no idea how much a first copy would be worth. Didn't really care about the amount for the story, just that Reid would give Luke something so valuable (personally and monetarily) because he loves him so much.
However, I did get the whole grandfather not liking it right. When Gatsby first came out it wasn't as heralded as Fitzgerald's first two novels. It wasn't until 20 years after his death that it became known as one of the best novels of the 20th century.
Thanks for the comment! I so so so appreciate it. :)
This is so good, and just yesterday I was wondering if you'd post anything soon. YAY!
I adore the beginning because I always love when they talk after the sex. So nice job there.
And the present!!! Of course Reid would be that thoughtful. But I love the significance of it and that he can now part with it since he has something more valuable now. *swoon*
And I love the cheesy stuff Luke says because we all know Reid loves it just as much. Fluffy goodness. This was wonderful.
Thank you! Yeah, I finally got a somewhat good idea I could write in my head. I'm actually in the middle of writing a something and it's, dare I say, angsty.
I like it when they talk after sex too. You know, we don't really get a lot of that in fics. I wonder why.
You know, despite his declaration that he forgets birthdays and the like, I think Reid kicks ass in the gift giving department. Just seems like the person that when he remembers, he goes all out.

I want to believe that as their relationship goes on and grows, Reid would let Luke in and tell him about his past-good and/or bad.
