And yet the lovely story esteefee wrote doesn't have as many comments. I just don't get it.
I have stayed off the discussion site for the last couple of days. Will probably go back to contributing for Mamahub but when I checked it yesterday, too many of the new threads had "Carter" in their titles. Sigh.
I don't get it either. I don't read it but someone has written a whole series of Reese/Zoe stories. I have noticed no one comments on her(?) stuff...not even the non/slashers. I was just blindsided by AKMars...she was one on my RINCH writers...one who gave me warm fuzzies reading her stuff. So I read emotional trauma and OOC..I assumed she was delving into a darker side of Rinch, you know like someone hurting them....sort of like Cement Walls or whatever; the one Root dumps Finch in an insane asylum; I knew it was Grace...someone torturing Finch...but Reese, omg...I literally almost vomited. Then all the claps on the back well done loved it....and these people love POI. I guess I'm getting to thin skinned, but I thought it was a betrayal to Reese's character. A betrayal to the Finch And Reese dynamic, slash or otherwise.
The thing is... these weird things do happen in fandoms from time to time. I've seen them over and over again through the years and so they don't upset me quite as much. You're totally right to feel upset but it doesn't surprise me quite as much to see these fics that make me go "WTF, why did she write that?"
It was a betrayal to Reese's character. Why on earth would he even blame Finch? We see nothing to indicate he thought any such thing in the episode, nor does anything in his character hint that he would be vindictive, especially toward Finch. That's not the show I'm watching.
I think there will always be those fics that give us the warm fuzzies and those that just aren't our cup of tea. This is a new and growing fandom and the good will end up outweighing the bad. Hang in there.
Have you read esteefee's new fic? That will make you feel so much better. Also, I'm working on two Rinch fics this weekend.
