Actually no. I have flight benefits, so I can come back up to NYC later this summer if I wanted to. Maybe what I'll do is come this weekend, and then come back later in the summer to do everything I missed.
I'm not sure what specifically type of places you'd prefer to see, but I recommend seeing Central Park (of course) and then heading downtown from there you can see Rockefeller Center, then Bryant Park and Times Square, then the Empire State Building, then Union Square a little further down.
I also recommend going further downtown toward SoHo, along Prince St., starting east from 6th avenues... there's some good shops down that way, including a great indie book store called McNally Jackson. When downtown, also walk down Bleeker St. in the Village; lots of good music (and sex) shops.
In terms of friendly gay bars, I recommend Pieces in the Village.
