I have been-- several years ago, now, because the place used to be just a hole-in-the-wall noodle house next to Moscow-on-the-Hill. I'm glad to see they've survived-- that bodes well IMO.
When I was there, the portions were smallish (but larger than you'd usually get in Japan, my dining partner-- who'd been an exchange student there-- said) though very good. I guess it is The Real Deal, authentic stuff. I found it to be a pleasant dining experience overall, and tasty food. What I had at the time was a chilled udon dish of some sort but of course I've forgotten the name. I would definitely go back; we're just not close to it anymore. But I'm really curious now!
We like Big Bowl and go occasionally. I love their housemade ginger soda. The last time we were there I had kung pao tofu with noodles, but I'm looking more for Japanese noodle soup. Erik mentions a place that looks exactly what I'm looking for.
Tiger Sushi at the MOA has a good udon with shrimp tempura.
If you are looking for Japanese noodles as ingredients for your own cooking, look no further than United Noodles, over in the Minnehaha/Hiawatha corridor.
