The first two things you starred were things that didn't bother me. The first because I actually liked that they didn't give the reason for why Jack was there. I happily assumed it was because he'd heard of what happened with Daniel and was there to help. The second thing because I actually disagree that they weren't worried when Woolsey threatened Daniel. Jack said he'd let it happen over his dead body and I don't doubt that and the others looked to be ready to come to some solution around Woolsey's plan. But I do agree with you that it would've been better if they hadn't dropped the original 3-4 episode arc to cram it all into one. I can think of at least 2 or 3 episodes this season that I would've preferred that they dropped in favor of making this one longer.

Hello, whoever you are, and welcome to my journal. :)

For me, writing must make sense, and progress logically. Having Jack appear out of nowhere meant I didn't know why he was there. (Personal concern? Representing the AF?) Not knowing his reasoning meant not knowing what was at stake for him, and that lessened the tension considerably.

Yes, Jack said "over my dead body," and it thrilled me that he still values Daniel that much. However, this was an opportunity for Woolsey to get tough, to explain that with the IOC backing him, he could enforce a death sentence. That would have provided some angst. Instead, he backed down, and it became, "well, maybe we'll freeze him instead," which Daniel (too) easily avoided. Woolsey looked like a wuss... again.

An actual story arc would have been a great idea. Even a bit of foreshadowing at the end of last week's episode about a Prior using soft-sell techniques would have helped. The writers came up with a really clever plotline, and then they blew it, big time.
