[Note: set after Ami, Minako, and Rei get together for ice-cream, even though it's being written before. THNMY?]It had been a good day, in Ami's opinion. She'd enjoyed getting together with Rei and Minako. It was nice. Mostly ( Read more... )

In the silence of space, there is indeed something there. A quiet flicker. It's a slow sweep, lonely and expecting nothing these days. And, finally... Contact. What's more... It was familiar.

After all, hadn't she agreed to meet someone there?

The Princess Jupiter stepped up to the tree, smiling at it. She'd always been partial to the massive oaks, something she'd probably received from her father. Among other things. And the smile changed slightly, though remained wholly real and friendly, when she spotted her friend waiting under the tree.

She moved to stand in front of Mercury, and crossed her arms. "Sorry I'm late." Was she late? Mercury was waiting, so she had to be late. "Do I get to sit down?"

It feels more like something false and misread, the atrium, the greenhouse. Mercury wonders if she's simply compensating for drift or sanity to construct this place in her mind the way it is, or if reality really is so indistinct here that she doesn't recognize the voice, or the person speaking, until they're standing over her, blocking the light (from where? up there? but there's no windows, no fixtures).

She smiles, eyes slowly focusing on the figure in front of her, till she picks out Jupiter's face from the faces it could have been, would have been, might still be. Her smile tilts a little to the left, friendly and inviting. "Of course you do, old friend," she says. "I haven't been here long myself. Although I was a little worried you might not be coming, today. How have things been? I've missed you of late. I feared you might be dead, even." She laughs, but something in the jest strikes true. No matter; it's likely only family history. She'll worry about it later. "I really have missed you."

An atrium? Greenhouse? Jupiter thought that this was a meadow, or some kind of garden. Whatever it was, it couldn't have been that important. After all, only the tree was. And the girl she was moving to sit next to, of course.

She moves into a sitting position slowly, the dress somehow not catching onto the tree's bark. She liked oaks, and the trees seemed to favor her. They weren't even that uncomfortable.

"I'd've sat down anyway." She laughs and settles herself, looking out across the... fields? "I'm always around. It's just you who seems to have forgotten about me." The smile contains no hurt in it, though there's possibly just an echo in the very back of her voice. Or somewhere. "I missed you too, Mercury. It's just a little lonely with the war coming to an end. No one comes around anymore." There's a bit of bitter humor in that statement, but she laughs and waves it away. "But that's neither here nor there right now. How are you?"

Mercury never really considered meeting and talking to Jupiter without this tree to sit by. It just seemed intimately tied to who Jupiter was, and she supposed sitting by it, she had been hoping that it was Jupiter she'd been waiting for. She probably had been, but it felt like someone else should have been here that wasn't. She couldn't put her fingers on who, though ( ... )
