Meme: Are You a Jackie or a Marilyn? Or Someone Else?

Got this meme from the lovely lifeandtimes, and I was kind of surprised by my result! And yet - not surprised as well. As I said over on hers, this is definitely not the full picture. I have a really different side to me as well as this one (O, dichotomous me), but I definitely relate to quite a few of BD's feature traits ( Read more... )

I used to read a lot about Bette. The book that springs to mind is the one on her hateful relathionship with Joan Crawford (yes, there is actually a book on that). The stories about the making of Whatever happened to Baby Jane were delicious. And then there is the book by her daughter, BD. Joan's daughter wrote a similarly scathing book, do you remember?

Was old hollywood more popular when we were kids? It seemed to be. You are right, that today's youth (since when did I start writing that phrase?) would not even know who they all were? I was madly into it.

My favourite Bette films are Now Voyager ("why should we ask for the moon when we have the stars") and Dark Victory (in which she can feel the sun on her hands while gardening but realises her eyesight is failing and everything is dark for her).

This quiz has been great. On my list of friends I've seen Marilyn, Doris, Ingrid, Audrey and Bette. Horrah!

I know very little about her but I love her sassy quotes, although some are a bit sad re her supposed lack of beauty compared to the starlets of the day*, but she reigns supreme anyway. Yes, Old Hollywood was definitely more popular back then. For one thing, the '70s were only 20 years after the '50s, 30 years after the '40s! Also, TV was much more ltd; if you had nothing to do on a weekend or were home sick in the week, the midday movies were all the old B&Ws. I didn't like Bette back then though - found her difficult, intimidating, uncomfortable, stern (I was a silly child) - but I really appreciate her now ( ... )

I got Ingrid.

I used to think the song went "all the boys think she's a spaz".

Hahaha, I was just about to google songs about or by Ingrid for a minute there 'cos I couldn't think what song that was. I only just found out that my mate Ingrid, who I've known since I was 8, was named for Ingrid Bergman. So weird to find out after all this time - for three decades I'd taken it so much for granted that she had Scando ancestors that it never even occurred to me to ask. :P
