My review/recap of this week's episode. Feel free to respectfully disagree with me in the comments. Apologies for all the food metaphors. I'm hungry...
What is this episode ... IDK. My personal low point (aka the moment I wanted to smash the screen): Morgana knocking Merlin off her feet and Merlin not doing a thing about it. And then being praised by Gaius as "so much more powerful" than Morgana in the end. DUH!!! Though I did enjoy Mithian, even though the plot made her do stupid, senseless things. I'm not even going to comment on the bedchamber scene. Ooooooooh no. ;)
The only excuse I can think is that Merlin hit his head so hard that he forgot he was a sorcerer. I can not fathom out any other reason for why he'd just sit there are wait for Morgana to kill him.
I do like Mithian, but even though i hated last years episode more than this one, I actually think she was written a bit better this year. SHe seemed very 'Gwenish' to me this time. Not the smart, independant woman she was last time.
Ha, we'll just put it in the box where we put all bad episodes of good shows.
Morgana was pretty much killing him though,he only survived because Gaius wafted a few herbs above him for all we know. I think it would have been so much better if they had just knocked him out right away. It would have made so much more sense.
Thank you! I don't often out and out critisise an episode, but this just seemed like a wasted opportunity to me. It was below average on a show that can be excellent; so it's not good enough.
I'm holding the hamsters back for now. I liked the first three episodes a lot, so as much as this episode really, really pissed me off, I'm keeping them locked in their little Hamster Ball...at least until next week

PMSL! That is so SO perfectly right! He's uniting Albion by killing peoples relatives and then deciding not to finish them off too. And yes - he went for a long walk and decided not to stab anyone. That is a summary of 5.04. Why did we both write so much on it?
Im not sure its that with Morgana around his magic is diminished slightly as that because they wont out him to her, he has to basically cower before her and let her have at the old killing-him-off thing without defending himself. Better dead than revealed as a sorceror yes? The fact he could supposedly kill her and thus get her out of the way... not addressed. We're supposed to forget all that because they then have him throwing her against walls/trees/the ground when she's not looking or he's in disguise. I just think they don't think we'll notice... and to be fair most people don't perhaps because they're so pathetically grateful he gets to do any kind of magic at all so...
I'd prefer we Talk About Kevin. (I think SPN in contrast is doing very well this season.) Anyway, here goes...
I don’t want her in episodes, she detracts something for me. That precisely sum up my feelings about her now. I'm sure many people will see this as a hater's harangue but honestly, I'm neither thrilled that she's now in a new role and has a huge "development" nor looking forward to what they have in store for her (OMG 3 FUCKING EPS! YOU'D DO WELL TO FEAR IT!) because at this point, with her character, similar to this episode in someway, there's intent and purpose somewhere but no visible build up at all so blink and miss it, look but not see, so vague it could mean a million things, whatever. It's frustrating that people think of this as character development and that she has a crucial role in the story now, that is, being the Queen Camelot desperately needs? I read that statement yesterday, honest to God. That said, I'm very grateful you wrote this:
Arthur is king, trying to fight his own demons and rule the kingdom.

Ha, yeah I was thinking of that SPN episode. I really enjoyed that one. I'm liking the season so far of SPN as a whole. A lot more contained and structured than the previous season
