Merlin Season 4 : My Retrospective

Jul 16, 2012 14:49

Well more a waffle of sorts, calling it a 'retrospective' seems to class it up a bit more though. These are just my personal views on Merlin, others may differ.

Hey! Remember when just before season 4 of Merlin started, I wrote up my hopes and expectations for the season? No, I didn't remember either, but apparently I did! So at the risk of ( Read more... )

But it has to be Twue Wuv! The over exposed lighting and string quartet following them about tells us so! ;)

I always love your review and thoughts on Merlin.

I only watch this show for Bradley and Colin and lovely Merthur fandom. Because they are all fabulous.

In terms of their failure to keep true to the story and pure at heart, I think what's most annoying to me as an audience in the entire series probably should be:
1. A round table without Lancelot is just a ROUND table, but definitely NOT the legendary round table. That's just it. The producers apparently made bad choices (I suspect we all know why).
2. Their desperate push of Arthur and Gwen so-called romance is absurd. The only thing ridiculous on this level is Tom Cruise jumped up and down to state his love for Katie Holmes years ago. It was fake, artificial and manufactured.

Just killing off Lancelot out of the whole legend still boggles my mind. I know obviously they can't get hold of the actor a lot, but surely that's something they should have thought about in season one. If they could have got Santiago full time, there is no way the story would have gone this way. I do have sympathy that producers etc don't know how long a tv show will last etc, but surely making sure that you cast an actor for one of the main characters in the mythology that can do more than 'blink and you miss it' scenes is paramount ( ... )

True, s4 had some good episodes, but killing off Lancelot was the worst thing they´ve done in the series so far. So I guess the only time we´ve seen the ´real´ round table was at the end of s3. The one with Merlin being part of the circle as well. ;(

I'm just in disbelief over killing off Lancelot. I couldn't believe they actually did it. I still can't. You're right, how can you have a round table without Lancelot?
