Interesting way to fix the episode. It's too bad that Giles had to die to make Buffy see the error of her ways.

Oh, he didn't have to die. It was just more fun that way *evil grin*.

I based the fic on the premise that it would have been better to kill Giles in season 7 than what actually happened. (Am I bitter? Yes.)

That was some absolutly powerful writing! You took a risk in having Giles die for this fic and it definitly paid off! I never expected that twist but it certinaly was an amazing twist. I think Giles' death was sort of what the Scoobies needed to come back togeter after everything in season six. Thanks for the great writing!

Thank you so much!I'm glad you think it worked. One of the things with writing this was that I wanted the death to be a surprise, but I didn't want it to come out of nowhere either. I think I do a pretty good job balancing the forshadowing and the element of surprise, cuz so far no one's said "WTF? That doesn't make any sense!"
Chapter 3, where Buffy figures out that Giles is dead, was actually my sister's idea, so I gotta give her credit for that. To have it set up so that the reader is both releived and upset at the same time is pretty cool.

Just found this fic and I got to see it's wonderful. I've been away from the Buffy fandom for a bit, but I'm regaining my love for this show as the Season 8 comic draws near, and your fic is a great reminder of why I fell for the show to begin with. It's about the characters.
Giles has to be one of my favourite characters and you do him a great justice here (even if you do kill him). A confrontation between Giles and The First was one thing missing from season seven. A great ending, too. I totally missed that Giles' diary moved from downstairs to upstairs through its own accord. A nice little touch to show he's still watching out for them.

I know when I was watching season 7 for the first time, I kept waiting for Giles to have a run-in with the First. And I was sorely disappointed. Apparently Robia La Morte (Jenny Calendar) became all born-again and didn't want to play the incarnation of evil anymore. Pfft. But the First could have appeared to Giles in other forms. Ethan could have died in Nevada. That would've been cool

I'm glad you like the ending. What with the fight scene (writing action is not my strong suit) and Buffy's speech, it was one of the more difficult things I've ever written.

I hate trying to write fight scenes, too. But the rest of your story was so great, I didn't even notice if the fight was good or not. What mattered was that the gang was back together.

This was a fantastic story! It sucks that Giles died but now she realizes that she was pushing everyone away and can tell exactly how much Giles did care for her always and how everyone cares for her and she cares for them. Wonderful wonderful job.
