The completion of the Oscar project and the unveiling of the Great Movies project

Last weekend, I completed the Oscar project by watching "Ben-Hur", the 1959 best picture winner. I can't believe how greasy Charlton Heston was in this move. It's well worth seeing, especially for the chariot race. I was also fascinated by the extensive gay subtext in the film ( Read more... )

84. Un Chien Andalou***( I sat through 8 minutes of this for a film class and am not sure if I could sit through the entire non-linear Dali film without stabbing myself in the eye)

Heh, I'm amusing you saw that part that makes this conclusion ironic?

I really love Ebert, perhaps a little too much.

Un Chien Andalou gave me NIGHTMARES FOR DAYS.

The Third Man is one of my Dad's all-time favourite movies.

I really liked Hoop Dreams.

you are goint to have so much fun with this project. plus, i think it would be super-amusing if you did it in alphabetical order - 8 1/2 followed by aguirre would be mind-blowing.

Great idea! I really enjoyed your reviews from the Oscar project, I'm looking forward to reading a few in particular from this one - Apocalypse Now (because I didn't like it) and Dr Strangelove and Citizen Kane (because I did) and plenty just to see if I should add them to my own To-Watch list.
