for some reason that makes me feel sad [because i'm not looking forward to the day my kids will become distant]

Yes, it's a situation where we live on different continents too - so mere physical distance is a factor. We see each other once or twice a year and talk on the phone a lot but lately, something is different overall.

I feel you. Expat life is difficult in that respect.

It is. How do you deal with "not being there"?

Then you must go and do so. Follow your instincts. =)

I'll reply in English this time. I think it'd be rude towards the others who don't know our language.

Also ich..Ah..English... sorry.. Well, I have to say that my mood turned sad while reading your entry since we all have to think about our future and that we won't be near our parents forever.
It makes me even more sad to read that your mother seams to suffer under the fact that you are far away.

Maybe this is just another reason to visit good old Germany again :-)

Yes, we all get to this point sooner or later. Being in different countries just adds to it -but we do get to see each other once or twice a year. My parents usually spend a month or two over here and I try to get to Europe once a year as well.

aww. :\ this entry made me sad... but yeah, it's inevitable that this happens, especially within expat families.

my mom misses me terribly too. she calls me a LOT.

Awwww, I can imagine. Thankfully, staying in touch and travelling is easy now... Imagine how this would have played out 50 years ago. :o\
