Photos from the most recent DragonCon, random acts of geek, and Halloweens Past.

getting annoyed because they kept moving me up in the colors before I had read ALL the books and wouldn’t let me go back.

I mean who does that? No kid you can't read those books anymore. It's no wonder i didn't try to tone down my learning til I was done. Or I did and my teachers could outwit a six year old.

Did the color coded learning to read system come on cards in a big box? I remember a set like that in early elementary school and think it was a Scholastic program. Orange cards were the highest level.
My grandfather was like your dad with books. I'd take the train into Grand Central a few times a year and he'd take me clothes shopping, lunch, then we'd go to the huge Barnes & Noble on Madison Ave (?) where I'd wallow through the HUGE remainders bins (books were $0.25) and go home with bags so full I could barely carry them. He never said no. TONS of SF and fantasy.

I do remember colors like the rainbow, and orange and red being coveted, and they were in boxes clearly indicated so I couldn't sneak off with a color below my level to finish out the set. I think the cards had comprehension questions? And the books were in magazine holder type boxes so you could see the spines? But could also be completely shut. Vague memories are vague.
