But take heart, it is not an insurmountable problem.
Go through your favorite fics that SOMEONE ELSE WROTE (not your own). And see how THEY describe characters on a regular basis. Do they use names? Use other terms? Remember, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." If how they write it is more effective, learn from them. Nothing wrong with it.
You WILL get negative reviews from time to time. Be grateful that it's only your descriptions and not your story that they're bashing. It implies that were it not for that, you'd have them. So go clean it up and then send the reviewer a PM mentioning a thanks for the suggestion, and if they'd be so kind, pleaes check out the latest chapter where you've made said changes to see if it works better.
And if you're holding out for universal popularity, you're going to be waiting for a very, very long time.
Well it isn't a bad review. As such really. At least it was constructive, something you can fix. As she/he said she Was intrigued by the story. So it was nothing to do with the story though.
If I could collect a penny for everytime someone said run-on sentences and overuse of commas in response to my fics, I'd be at least a pound richer! ^_^
But yeah also what samuraiko says also helps. Take a look at others' work and see how they are described. Sometimes it by how they feel, how the look, or by the expressions on their face and by other details that set them apart from the others.
But see its helpful... cos' now you'll be conscious of it now and think more about the descriptors you will use in the future. Although, the tendency to overuse and vary descriptors so much is also a trap some people fall into. Sometimes it isn't a crime to use their names. Which is inherently theirs. ^__^
