CBS own Last.fm, so I'm sure it's doing OK for now.

Last.fm are in Old Street - so UK royalty structures apply (they also have done deals with record companies directly - and are now owned by CBS, too).

Lst.fm work under UK licensing and royalties, which are slighty more benign.

This oculd mean, I guess, a loss of access to the US at some point if the various companies get upset.

I used pay for last.fm, but don't bother anymore... I do use the scrobbling and recommendations extensively, and I think they did a better overall job than Pandora as a -site- to browse and explore.

I love their recommendations engine. It really works for me and it's damned good at finding obscure stuff and really quite small gigs. The ability to feed out friends list gigs and recommended gigs as an RSS feed is genius.

I wish they'd add something which updated me when new albums were released by bands I listen to.

That would be a cool thing that I'd like. And you might think that it might make financial sense for, say, record labels to provide such a service that does just that rather than spamming you about all sorts of nonsense you're not interested in. But the music industry has doomed company syndrome badly.

Are we, er, sensing a web 2.0 startup here? ;P
