I know. It's just fucking insane. :( I've been hearing a lot of speculation that this is all being manipulated by factions in Iran, which means also that Israel is playing right into Iran's plans. It makes me wonder if Iran is trying to provoke the US into getting further mired as well, which can't mean anything good for anyone.
Sometimes, when I'm feeling really cynical and hopeless about that part of the world, I think we should just force everyone out of that whole area and nuke it 'til it glows so that no one can have it. :(
Sometimes I'm pretty sure that the U.S. is acting on an "If we can't have it, nobody can, so there!" impulse regarding the Middle East. Bush and company seem intent on either causing or fomenting destruction there.
You know, up until a few moments ago I would have disagreed on the grounds that Dubya & Co. generally are Dominionist sorts, the kind who believe that Israel has to remain intact in order to bring about the second coming. But then I read this article and I'm suddenly not so sure that it isn't their intent.
