hwang jin i and the evils of sp2

In this world there are people...
When they feel pain, they do not scream...
They don't even utter a single sound.
Are they hiding their sorrows behind their smiles?
Or have they changed the way they cry?

can i tell you that i just spent the last 3 full hours uninstalling sp2 from computers within this office? we're seriously not ready for the sp2 update, as it doesn't agree with one of our core applications.

I once had problems with SP2 because some parts of it don't go hand in hand with the games and apps I installed (the Security Center, I think, is one of them), so I always preferred using SP1A.

But darn, Microsoft will force-install SP2 on XP machines no matter how we try to cut it out:

hrmmm... thanks for the links. read up a bit... though i do believe all of them were dated for early last year. the articles you linked note that it shouldn't automatically install if we are not running automatic updates... the problem is... automatic updates somehow turns itself on after we've turned it off via the registries. users can't make the changes themselves as they would need local administrator access to do so. x_________X;;

still it makes me wonder if we should just turn off the group policies and let it download just so we can say "no" and "don't ever ask me to install this update again". _-_;; (re: microsoft technet link from theinternetpatrol.com)
