Starhawk is still the best... Spiral Dance is the basic primer of wicca, in my opinion. Also see if you can find issues of Green Egg & New Witch magazines - they are generally good.

You can check out reviews of books in those magazines, as well as at Witchvox.com - one of the most 'serious and reputable' (for lack of a better term) sites on the net.

Overall, I personally, would stay away from anything titled "for teens," "for dummies," "the easy way," anything too trendy looking, or anything by Amber Ravenwolf.

Best of luck, and good journeys!

I've heard Starhawk recommended a lot,but I needed to be sure.Everyone I've talked to has said stay away from Ravenwolf, that her info isn't 100% accurate.Living in the south around baptists and catholics...well,lots of christians,it's just a little hard to get the right info(and I highly doubt we'll have the magazines). For a religion that's becoming so popular it's amazing how hard it is to find a credible source. But I appreciate the help, and I can't wait to learne more. =)

Starhawk is definately an excellent author and I've found her books to help as well, but my personal two favorites would have to be Scott Cunningham and Oberon Zell-Ravenheart ( ... )
