Journey's End

To breath life back into my LJ after two years, here's my opinion on Journey's End. But, thanks to my brain dissecting it and applying copious amounts of fridge logic, it ended up half review, half speculation, with a wish list for series 5/6 (no idea if the numbering has been decided on for that yet) tagged on at the end.

Warning: this is a rather ( Read more... )

Your post, it's made of absolute win.

And finally! Someone else who likes bonekickers :D

Wow, first time something I've told I win at something (okay, second if you count the picture of Squall from FFVIII as a Cactuar that I did for a laugh).

As for Bonekickers, it may be daft but at least it's more historically accurate than Robin Hood. That first episode was so Tomb Raider like I was in my element.

Agree with everything. I'm also glad to see someone who thinks Doctor v.10.5 is the Valeyard.

Caan is the true Bad Wolf, manipulating the timelines as far back as S1 to bring everyone together at the right time to thwart the Master-plan.

I would've liked something like that. I kind of predicted it as a "Thing that I hope will happen in Journey's End", if only to make all the Bad Wolf nonsense mean something. Alas, it was not to be, and the term 'Bad Wolf' remains a meaningless piece of fluff.

In general I agree with everything you said. As a Ten/Rose shipper, the finale was almost satisfying. I'm still rather mixed as I would have liked to have seen more between Rose and the real Ten but that finale had to cover A LOT of story in a short time and the imperfect solution we got was probably the best possible solution to the problem. I understand why he couldn't be allowed to say "it" or do anything else that would have kept Rose attached to him as it was obvious he was doing what he thought would be best for both of them but it still hurts a bit.

I also really liked this point: "But what broke my heart the most wasn't Donna wanting to stay and the choice being taken from her, but the fact that, to save his friend, the Doctor had to do what the Time Lords forced on his companions in The War Games. A serial I haven't seen yet, but I can't begin to imagine what was going through his head when, essentially, he became them."

I hadn't thought about that at all and it's really poignant and compelling to consider.

more of the Rose seen in S2 (if you ask me, she was more helpful in Doomsday than she was here).

Well, to be fair, most of the people brought back for the finale didn't do much. So I think we can blame RTD for that...
