I'm now 9 hours into SoulSilver after a slight problem in starting a new game after trading over Cyndaquil to angelbless' HeartGold game (you have to erase the old save first? Who came up with that idea). Somehow, I wound up with a female Totodile, to the utter amazement of the others (especially my sister as she's been trying to get a female Chikorita ever ( Read more... )

I love Professor Layton. I pretty much bought a DS just for that game after playing the first one on my brothers when I was visiting last year.

It's always been that you have to erase your old file to save a new one on Pokemon games. It doesn't really surprise me, the data for the game is massive.

I envy you. It took me like 20 minutes of restarting my game over and over again to get a female Totodile. :|

Yeah, but on the DS you have to erase your file at the title screen before you start a new game otherwise you're not allowed to save at all. The GB and GBA games just overwrote the old file when you save the new game for the first time. I can understand the reasoning behind this new system, but it did throw me through a loop.

I envy your patience; I'm not sure I could restart a game for 20 minutes to get the right gender - hunting for a male Geodude was trying enough for me, and that didn't require rebooting! As it was, none of us were ever expecting to get a female starter by chance - the only time we'd ever seen one before now was with the original games, when my sister traded a Chikorita egg to my brother's Gold game and it turned out to be the female she was after (he offered to send it back to her, but she'd promised him that egg and wouldn't go back on her word).

It sucks, but I think it makes sense since, like I said, the HGSS files are massive. Bigger than DPPt, even, since you could save those games after playing them for a bit, you didn't have to erase them at the title screen.

The first female started I got was a Piplup in Diamond and I got her on the first try. After that, I had to restart all of my games repeatedly to get the female. Although that still isn't quite as irritating as trying to get a female Eevee, let me tell you.

How they managed to fit everything on the cart including the infrared for the Pokewalker is currently beyond me.

Ugh, female Eevees. It's bad enough that Leafeon and Glaceon are unobtainable, but in order to the available five you need to subject offspring to inheriting states from a Ditto. Although at the moment finding a female Paras is proving a nightmare. I'd better not have this trouble getting a male Scyther, that's all I can say.

All the gym leaders are time lords. =O ALL OF THEM! But their gyms are awesome despite their defying physics.

If I had a Piplup and could get my DS to connect to the internet at school, I'd trade with you. xD; Except that I don't, so... ^^;

And that's weird about you seeing so many female pokemon. Maybe it's a function of whatever your trainer number is? Because I also have SoulSilver, and I actually tend to encounter mostly male pokemon, except for Nidoran, of which I encounter very few males. But yesss... their sprites following you around are just ♥! Although it can be kind of amusing, if you have a really large one - like Gyarados or something - following you around, as it just kind of... looms.

Also, I think this might be the first time I've commented on your journal after the friending meme thing. ^^; Sorry for being kinda lame like that.

Whitney is possibly the only one so far whose gym is even remotely within the realms of plausibility. Although it's now even more of a maze than it was originally (plus you can't make out Clefairy very well this time round).

I'm still trying to figure all the ins and outs to the Wi-Fi system. But looking at the official GTS site's real-time trade updates is currently making my jaw drop. How on Earth am I going to wrangle a Piplup out of that place!?

It must be an ID number thing, because finding a male Scyther in the Bug Catching Contest was incredibly tricky (I've now wound up with a spare female), although finding a female Paras was unusually difficult too. But the sprites are just adorable - I had my baby Paras, Para, jumping around with joy the other day. But on the flip-side, I now feel awful if I leave my Pokémon with status ailments after talking to my Totodile while she was poisoned. :(

If it's any consolation, I'm just as bad with that. I don't think I've commented on yours at all yet. ^^;

Jasmine's does, too. I don't know about the rest, as I haven't been to any others yet... And oooh, yeah - I'd forgotten that there even was a Clefairy, and it's certainly not obvious this time.

And... perhaps you'll get a Piplup out of luck? Or magic? Or something? The ultimate end of Piplup's evolution chain is awesome... a Killer Penguin with resistances to nearly everything. So, I imagine any people put up for trading get snapped up quickly. Good luck!

And yes! It's so sad when they have status ailments - and when they're in the yellow or the red in terms of HP, too. =/ They say that they're dizzy and so forth.

And well, we've both rectified it, now. xD
