Yes. Like the practice of Muslim invaders who, after conquering a Christian area, built their mosque on the ruins of the cathedral they just destroyed. (Though of course not as serious--we are talking comic books here.)

Well said. Like you I'm not that interested in a character's race or gender, I'm just interested in what cool new powers/skills/ways of inflicting damage it has.
