Ken looked outside of the bus, and gently tucked his hair behind his ear. Staring at the familiar scene and ignoring the curious gazes from his fellow nihonjins, and tightening one hand grip on his new housemate’s luggage, Ken gently tapped his companion on the shoulder.
“Wallace san.” He tentatively started. “We ah arumosuto zea.”(We’re almost there)
Wallace's eyes fluttered open, they were heavy. It was really early, but to him it was really late...jet lag was hitting him, and it was doing it hard.
"Oh...sorry." Wallace felt bad, Ken came all the way to pick him up...and here he was showing his gratitude by almost falling asleep on him. Nice. Real Nice.
Ken smiled as the blond boy apologized. He acknowledged Wallace’s remark with a nod, and then got up as the bus took a stop. Right after getting off the bus, he yawned and stretched. “Ah litoru taiado aranto we? Ai kanto waito too suripu mai serufu”(A little tired aren’t we? I can’t wait to sleep myself.)
Wallace smiled at the boys attempts to make him feel more comfortable, by speaking his language.
"Your very good at English. I can understand Japanese fine though, you don't need to go through so much effort"
Ken blushed. Perhaps it was a bad idea to speak English after all. He was confident in his ability to read and comprehend the language, but speaking it was a different matter. “Ok.” Ken replied feeling redness creeping up his neck, and turned around hastily to hide his face. Feeling totally self-conscious now, he pointed to the tall gray apartment, and started walk ahead. “It’s this way.”
Wallace was starting to feel worse, he obviously insulted him. Again he apologized.
"Sorry..."
He gripped the luggage's grip, as Gummimon (in his actually Gummimon form) slept gently ontop of it. He followed Ken toward the grey apartments, admiring the setting around him.
"Its nice here."
“Thank you.” Ken accepted the compliment politely. He turned around and gave him a little smile. “I’m sure your place is nice too. Not a little box like this…” He pointed at the apartment. “Sometimes you can’t help but feeling like little hamsters living in a cage you see…” He looked up at the sky scrapper. “What’s your home like?” He smiled, attempting to be more friendly. “Ah, but excuse me for a sec.” Stopping at the front of the apartment buildings, he pressed the numbers to open the front gate. “Please come in.” Ken smiled.
Wallace smiled, Thanked him and walked in.
Feeling the feel of hard black marble on his shoe, Ken sighed inward as it made transporting of the luggage much easier. Honestly, it was a hassle, lugging it around in the street. At times like this, he really wished he had a car, but alas not for another year at least…at any rate. Stretching, the soccer player cracked his neck. Then he oriented towards the elevator. “Are apartments as common in America as it is here?” Once again, he attempted, trying to fish more information out of the sleepy head.
Wallace shook himself back into consciousness. "Ya...especially in big cities, cost of living can be high so apartments are really helpful. Me and my Mama lived in one for a couple years, but we moved into my grand mother’s old home a couple years ago. Its not much, but its home."
Ken curled corners of his mouth as the blond boy said “Mama.” It had a nice warm tone to it. “Well, my place isn’t much either, but I hope it’ll be comfortable enough.” He smiled again, taking a mental note to call his Kaa-san “Mama” the next time she calls. After all, it had been awhile since he’s called her that.
Wallace continued to follow the boy through the alien halls of the apartment, keeping a mental note on where everything was as to not get lost in the future.
Ken turned around and smiled. “It’s pretty straight forward. Pretty much, you come inside, take the elevator to the 7th floor, and the 3rd house on your left is my place.” He explained as they walked down the hallway. “But if you really do get lost, look at the doorknob. My father had installed a different lock for security reasons.” Ken paused for a sec, stopping in front of the white door. “We…erm. Had a little incident back in December.” He smiled sheepishly, recalling the crazy mails they’ve received.
Ken pressed the combination and flung the door open. “Welcome, to the Ichijouji residence.”
Wallace took a deep breath, and followed him inside. His eyes glanced around the area scanning everything.
"Its homey. I like it here." Wallace smiled at him, setting his bags down gently trying not to disturb the snoozing digimon laying ontop of the bag.
A small sigh escaped between the Japanese teen’s lips as his new housemate approved of the flat. For sure, Hours of cleaning sure wasn’t fun, but it seems it payed off. “Awesome. I’m glad.” He matched his companion’s expression. He undid his shoes quickly, and placed it on the shoe rack located on the right side of the doorway. He pulled out two pairs of slippers, one yellow, and another blue.
"Right, here's the shoe rack, on the right side. In Japan most people take off their shoes upon entering the building." Ken explained, though he somehow had a feeling Wallace would know.
Wallace quickly remembered the policy on shoes in Japan, and took off his shoes urgently. "I'm so sorry, I totally forgot. I really should remember stuff like that" Wallace flustered, putting the shoes away Wallace stepped into the building for real.
"Thank you for reminding me...I avoided an embarrassing situation"
Ken smiled warmly and shook his head, handing him the yellow pair of slippers. “It’s alright. You don’t need to be so polite. After all, this is your new home right?” He observed the sleeping digimon with kind eyes. “Your buddy seems tired. Should I first show you to bedroom?”
"Ya that would be nice," Wallace picked up Gummimon gently as to not wake up.
"Lead the way!" he joked.
“Seru yesu seru!”(Sir Yes Sir) Ken gave a playful salute, and started marching forward stiffly.
