Oh, Ellen. Fantastic Harvelle interlude. I was sure Bill wasn't coming back after the one car door closing line. I'm glad he got to hug Ellen and read to Jo. And to have this time before the hunt next summer in California. Great story, thanks for sharing!

Why thank you~ I almost did go that route, but I just couldn't write it. Too obvious, considering my track record ;) And too depressing! The Harvelles are awesome, they deserve at bit of happiness. Glad you enjoyed!

Your grasp of these characters is wonderful, Ellen in particular.
and yes, I was absolutely convinced that Bill was going to be dead, and that worked really well to put the reader in Ellen's shoes.
love the harvelles, and love how you delve into these oft-neglected bits of canon and flesh them out. <3

the interstices are what grab me, what can I say! i always worry a bit when i'm doing what amounts to slice-of-life shots of minor characters, though, so I'm glad that you liked the fic! And thanks for noticing the use of suspense with the reader's knowledge of Bill's fate ;)

Aw. The Harvelles as a family. It's good Ellen appreciates what she has.

Yeah, that's the only way I can deal with it, thinking that at least she enjoyed it while it lasted D:
