Are you really better than me?

Why is it that no matter where you go, what line of work you're in, what race or religion you are, there will always be someone that thinks that they are better than you? How do you raise your son or daughter to think that he or she is better than someone else? How could you possibly believe that you are superior to someone else? What goes on in ( Read more... )

I have to agree. Like you, I was brought up to treat people the way I'd like to be treated and showing a little respect is not a sin. I've run into more people than I'd care to count who fall into that arrogant why-would-I-ever-want-to-talk-to-you?! category. I don't know what makes so many people that way. Social norms? Peer pressure? Shitty parenting? All of the above?

What I do know is that people who often spend time tearing other people down or otherwise treating people like shit are often very insecure themselves. The "asshole mode" is just a way of either trying to hide that insecurity, or of compensating for whatever makes them insecure in the first place.
