It cracks me up; you are my opposite in shipping, which really keeps me on my toes since I can be far too ostentatious in my opinions. Canon couples are only fun for me if I like them. If I don’t I just ignore them, unless they’re part of my other favorite couples (at least if they’re not married. Married couples are like impossible for me to get behind or tear apart, IDK why). If I see something I like, I go scourge the interwebz for said potential. The show/cartoon/manga/comic may or may not help. I don’t particularly mind if character A is with B, in fandom I can find a way for B to be with Z without destroying ships (newsflash, not all relationships end bad, good, or at all). In fact I probably would use it as a source of drama, love triangle and all that (I know it’s cheap :<, it’s my favorite though as long as it’s realistically portrayed and drama is not emo!I hate my life everyone looooooooves me ( ... )

As I said before my favorite pairings are really wide spread. I like anything that has a good plot, great characterization and is interesting in its presentation. I’ve read all sorts of fics, good and bad. I am not good at limiting myself, I am too curious. If someone says don’t look, I will. If the summary of a fic sounds good, I will read it. I have my own trepidations and my own dislikes (pedo!fic and Lolita fics), but in those instances if I recognize it's bad, then I ditch it ( ... )

Random question: in animation (and some live action shows, now that I think about it) I have noticed some character pull at their collars. I wonder do you know what it can mean? I have a vague idea, but I need a second opinion. I saw it on an episode of KND and was…well, I needed to make sure it meant what I think it means, it would put my idea of Lizzie/1 in a new perspective ( ... )

Off-tangent, but I just had to write this. the_audren_file March 3 2010, 13:41:17 UTC
Sometimes though, I indulge in bad writing...
This reminded me of a fic I read that I really need to rant about to get off my chest. Bear with me for the next couple of paragraphs @.@ It was a Tetrax-centric fic. Initially I was "8D!" then I saw it was a Tetrax/OC fic and I got all apprehensive and then the summary said he adopts a child and I sat stock-still for about fifteen minutes (give or take) debating whether or not I should risk bad-fic/bad-premise and in the end I did click on it out of sheer morbid curiosity.

In the first sentence of the fic, the author wrote that Tetrax had a wife and a son. I spent the next five minutes basically arguing with the canon-police in my head (read: myself) why the premise could work. We weren't given much information on Tetrax's past, he could have had a child and a family. If, that is, we ignore the fact that he made NO MENTION of said family when he told Ben of his world being destroyed because of his actions. If he did have a family, he would have said something about it considering Ben ( ... )

And (relatively) back on track the_audren_file March 3 2010, 14:16:19 UTC
Because really, even if I fucking love Mytrax and ship it from here to Vilgaxia and back, I want to see why it would work from (general) your perspective. If it was never established in canon, you cannot expect to just go "X loved Y but X wouldn't admit it" without people asking for some justification. My being a shipper is not a free-pass if you never gave me a reasoning of WHY and HOW they eventually got to that point of attraction.

Case in point: Aptitude. Yes, the fic starts out with them already "in love" or at least attracted to/with each other. We learn all this through the way they interact, the way they speak to each other, the angry snarls, the familiar jeers, the "this close to killing each other" atmosphere between them, the fact that they're so accustomed to each other it feels like a routine from an outside party's (Gluto's) perspective.

The fic did not use an "X loved Y" statement to indicate the characters' feelings for each other. And it is because the fic had this statement go unsaid that made the fic and the ( ... )

Consider this a crash course on why Addy fucking loves DarkCaster pt 1 the_audren_file March 3 2010, 14:49:46 UTC
Okay, so, my definition of Vanilla is basically "Male and Female." It is het. It is two people where one has XX's in their chromosomes and the other has XY. Shallow? Perhaps. But because of the simple fact that most societies are less likely to raise a brow at a male/female pair than a male/male or female/female pair, it is vanilla to me ( ... )

Here's the thing about Mike/Darkstar. He's power-hungry. He admits that he uses his power for his own personal gain. He asks the heroes why would he use his powers to help others when he can use it to make himself more powerful. Everything he does is calculated to make him stronger, more powerful, more dangerous.

And he knows this. He enjoys the benefits of his abilities and is at the core selfish. He consciously knows what he's doing is not what the "good guys" do, and he doesn't care. He's vain and arrogant and up until he met the hero trio, he had reason to be. He's not your typical kid's show villain because he doesn't go around committing random acts of violence on others. He may be a villain but he's not "evil." He may feed on people but come on, he needs to eat to live. It's like saying a lion is evil for hunting a gazelle.

It's just the way his body operates. And no, I don't consider vampires or werewolves evil just because they feed on humans. But again, misanthrophist, I'm biased. Besides, he hasn't killed anyone yet. ( ... )

Okay, so now that I've established the possibility of them teaming up despite never being on-screen together, I will finally go into what I love about the possible dynamics of the pairing.

You have two equally selfish, equally power-hungry individuals out for revenge on the same person. They're both intelligent and I say this because you cannot be manipulative and get away with it without some level of intelligence. (Darkstar had gotten away with feeding on the girls at his prep for who knows how long before he finally figured out getting more than what he needed gave him extra powers. Charmcaster had successfully fooled Gwen, Ben, Max, and who knows who else in the original series. And back then, the characters had this ability called "LOGIC" and the the power of "OBSERVATION" and the strangely rare "COMMON SENSE." She fooled Kevin in Alien Force and had used what he felt self-conscious about to get him to "turn" on Gwen, which shows she can understand empathy and even fake it ( ... )

Wrapping it up and moving on... the_audren_file March 3 2010, 16:16:48 UTC
Now I know tons of people cry out "BUT SHE'S OLDER THAN HIM!"

I answer: So what? Darkstar may be a "minor" since he's not eighteen but it's not like they engage in sexual activity. Besides, in a few year's time, he will be an adult so that point is moot.

Let's not forget the "BUT HE'S AN ICKY, UGLY ZOMBIE!"

I answer: I honestly believe the begining stages of learning Magic is not as glamorous as most think it would be. It's like learning to paint or draw or even write. You don't automatically have a masterpiece. You go through tons of sketches or drafts that most people (especially when you're first starting out) will find FUGLY and/or just plain PAINFUL to read/look at.

When you're manipulating energy or life essences, and you screw it up the results generally are worse than a leg drawn at a painful angle or an incredibly convoluted run-on sentence (like this one XD). Charmcaster would have seen far uglier, far more horrible things. Hell, she may have even SUMMONED one or two or ten. If not her, then her Uncle or her other ( ... )

Last one! FINALLY @.@ the_audren_file March 3 2010, 16:26:42 UTC
And the relationship developing with all these characters is first and foremost: Friendship. Even 5/Heinrick was originally that of friendship until the curse happened and then it twisted that friendship into rivals/foes, though 5 never gave up on her BFF.

As for Mushi, I prefer her over 3 but she's not my favorite either XD but am I the only one who was disappointed the series never followed up with the King Sandy breaking Mushi out of her bedroom after being grounded? Maybe it did follow it up and I never got to see it ;A; but that was a cute villain couple because a little kindergartener ordering his teenager cousins around is just adorable in my head ( ... )

Where did you find that fic? ff.net? I’ve always avoided the Ben 10 section on principle. I don’t mean to be rude or condescending at all, but bad fics are my way of finding other people who like the same ideas I do. Even if…immature. Eventually they won’t be? And I can pick up what fandom for certain shows/ships write and steer clear away from the established/normal clichés. Sometimes it’s just so I can feel like I am not alone in my love for certain ships/characters/ideas. Execution is secondary for a moment ( ... )

It seems, to me, their mutual benefit would not be strong enough to last through. After all, revenge on Gwen is one thing, but Charmcaster seems very opportunistic, while Darkstar sounds too self-centered. Their goals diverge in a rather important manner, and reconnecting them almost seems Disney-esque ( ... )
