It looks great! Cant wait to see the whole thing!

Ive been trying my hand at knits lately too. I'm sorta getting the hang of it haha. The walking presser foot I got works wonders! I just need to find my machine's stretch stitch like you did. Its an early 2000's low end machine, so I have to change out these dumb discs to change my stitches. Im too lazy for that shit :/

Thanks!

I read a few blogs before I started in, and they said a zig-zag works well too. I just figured I'd try the strech stitch since that's what it's for. I have never heard of a machine that used disks to change stitches except for embroidery! I guess that was a short lived trend.
I've got a walking foot, but haven't tried it yet.

wait, theres a stretch stitch on machines? i have got to look into this!! i've been chicken about sewing on knit fabrics because the one time i tried, the thread/seam i sewed didnt have any stretch and immediately broke in multiple places when i tried it on.

Depends on your machine, but if yours doesn't have one, I read a zig zag is also supposed to work.

I'm totally going to have to have you or Elizabeth walk me through this knit zig zag or stretch stitch thing, because that looks fabulous.

Just try it! I have some leftover fabric if you want it. Not enough to do anything real with it, but you can practice and get a feel for how your machine handles it.

THANK YOU! yesididit October 28 2012, 16:36:59 UTC
it took some googling to figure it out, because my sewing machine manual is absolute crap. but i DO have a stretch stitch! i'm excited! thank you!

thanks for the offer of fabric, but i have plenty.

do you use a different needle? or special thread? the only needles i have are regular and heavy/denim.

I had no idea that knits were supposed to be hard, although anything looks like cake after stitched down elastic. (Which I am still not great at....)

I've altered loads of knit stuff. I used a regular zigzag, I figured if it works on elastic, why not knit?
